Q. When
I bring my Cotton and Willow furniture home, it is green .
Why is it not the same
tones as in the photos?
| A. Most of
our furniture is built when the willow is freshly harvested,
green and supple. As the willow dries the bark changes to
a variety of warm earthy tones. This process takes about
three months. |
Q. Should
I oil my willow furniture?
| A. Yes. Once
your piece is dry and the color has changed a coat of oil
will
protect it and fully bring out the beautiful warm tones of
the wood. There are a couple of options for oiling. 1) Mineral
oil will feed the wood and enhance the colors and it will
not leave a finish. |
A2. Tung
oil will feed the wood and enhance the colors and it leaves
a
soft long lasting finish.(best choice for outdoor) |
Q. Will my pieces shrink or crack?
| A. Well, yes
and no. Notched frame members will shrink together ensuring
a
tight and solid frame. Some minor cracking may occur but
nothing that affects the durable integrity of the furniture.
Our willow is well suited to our dry climate. |
Q. Is this furniture suitable for indoor and
outdoor use?
| A. This furniture
can last for generations when kept and cared for indoors.
It is very long lasting as well, "we have been using pieces
for over 12 years outside". They last longest
if they are oiled regularly and
sheltered
in
the
winter
when not in use. |
Q. What makes Cotton and Willow furniture
an environmentally responsible choice?
| A. We have
selectively harvested willows from the same areas for over
15 years.
The willows always grow back where they have been pruned
and the re growth is often the most desirable for our furniture.
It is sustainable use of forest resources. |
